Valid passport – must be valid for 6 months from date of application and a minimum of 2 empty pages.
Filled out application form, all questions must be answered, if they are not applicable then fill in with n/a. If applicant was born in Hong Kong, Taiwan or China the name must be entered in ethnic script (Section 1.3)
Photo: One 33mm x 48mm passport style photo for each applicant taken within six months of application. Photos must be in colour taken against a white background, (or light-blue background for applicants with white hair). No hair accessories, and eye-glasses should be removed. They must be on glossy photographic paper, no matte-finish & no stains, creases or scratches. Photos can be done onsite in the Vancouver office.
**Important: If the photo is not the exact size and requirements the application will be rejected.**
If applicant is not a Canadian passport holder a photocopy of the Canadian PR Card (front & back) or Valid Visa for Canada. Supplementary Visa Application form must be filled out in addition to the Visa Application form.
Former Chinese & Hong Kong citizens as well as those born in China & Hong Kong are required to provide an original Chinese passport or birth certificate or HK ID for a first time visa application. If none of the previously mentioned documents are available and/or the applicant has immigrated to Canada more than 20 years ago, original Landed Document or Citizenship Certificate is required. Subsequent applications require proof of visas such as expired passports with previous visas.
Applicants must provide their international flight booking as well as one of the following:
Hotel Booking
Tour/Cruise Itinerary
An invitation letter from friends or family in China, it must include the dates & purpose of travel as well as the full contact information of the friend/family.
The information on the application MUST BE ANSWERED TRULY AND COMPLETELY or it may lead to the delay in processing or rejection of a visa.
If the applicant is non-Asian and married to an Asian person and both are either:
Visiting China together
One spouse is visiting the other in China
A Marriage Certificate/Proof of Marriage is required in addition to the other required documents.
9. A Chinese child born in Canada who applies for a Chinese visa for the first time shall provide parent's permanent resident card or foreign passport and long form birth certificate.
A transit visa is required if you are staying more than 24 hours at the airport or have to leave the airport while waiting for a connectiong flight to another country. Applicants are required to provide both of the following:
An air ticket to the onward/final destination
A valid visa for the final destination if applicable
Original passport valid for at least six months from the date of application with at least 2 blank visa pages.
Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Unit issued by the Municiple Commission of Commerce in China (Invitation Letter of Duly Authorized Unit refers to the form of visa notification issued by the Chinese governmental departments, companies and social organizations authorized by the Chinese Foreign Ministry).
International flight booking.
Each stay is limited by a 30 calendar day period, longer stays can be requested but are subject to approval by the Chinese Consulate.
Multiple entry 6 month visa: The applicant must have been issued two visas in the past (a single & double and has proof – a photocopy or visas in their current passport).
Multiple entry 12 month visa: The applicant must have been issued a 6 month visa in the past (and has proof – a photocopy or visas in their current passport).
Whether a visa is to be issued or not to be issued, and what type of visa to be issued shall be decided by Consular Officers in the light of China's relevant laws and regulations.
For 2 & 3 Business Days processing, all documents must be received by our Vancouver Office before 10:00am of the processing day. Documents will be available for pickup by the afternoon of the next business day.
Student Visa Applicants: Must also provide a copy of Foreign Student Visa Application Form (JW201 or JW202) issued by the Chinese Ministry of Education and copy of enrollment letter from receiving university in China.
Employment Visa Applicants: Must also provide an employment license issued by the Chinese Ministry of Labour or a confirmation issued by the Chinese State Bureau of Foreign Exports for applicants to be working in an academic institution; an official invitation issued by a Chinese government agency.
For crew members of unscheduled or chartered flights or private air crafts or vessels – an official letter from the carrier, along with a name list of the crew members. Note: A landing/docking permit must be obtained prior to departure.
Attention: Persons wanting information on or to apply for the following: Hong Kong I.D. Card, Chinese Passport, HKSAR Passport, Scheme $6000 need to go to the Chinese Consulate located at 1338 West Broadway in Vancouver, B.C. The Chinese Consulate hours are from 9:00am – 1:00pm Monday to Friday. We do not have any information nor can we assist in obtaining them at our office.
